One Year Program Filmmaking

EICAR offers a One Year Filmmaking Program covering the fundamentals of visual storytelling – directing, editing, screenwriting, cinematography, producing.  This program is designed to give the candidate the opportunity to discover and practice all basic aspects of the filmmaking craft.

The one-year student takes the entirety of first-year BFA core classes. The program runs for two semesters; the fall semester consists in theoretical classes and hands-on practical exercises, the spring semester consists in core classes and workshops. 

The rest of the academic year is devoted to the production of student films.

The One Year program

includes:

  • The one year student takes the range of first year Bachelor core classes
  • 1st term consist in theoretical classes and hands-on practical exercises
  • 2nd consists in core classes and workshops.
  • 3rd term is devoted to the production of student films.

A COMPREHENSIVE PROGRAMME IN THE ARTS AND CRAFTS OF THE FILM INDUSTRY

Program Hands-On-Film program

Students are introduced to the fundamentals – directing, production, cinematography, screenwriting or editing – of the art and craft of film production in a predominately hands-on-film curriculum with complimentary theoretical and film culture classes.

  • The program includes 3 months of “on the set” student film production where One year program students have the opportunity to work in the various posts of cinema production along with students from the Bachelor and Master programs.
  • The program serves as a powerful springboard for students looking to begin their film education.

English language Hands-On-Film program in the cinema capital of the world

  • Complete “learning by doing” curriculum in the fundamentals of filmmaking
  • Extensive one-on-one tutoring with film professionals
  • Faculty and tutors – A-list film professionals
  • Screenings, workshops & seminars in partnership with La Cinémathèque Française (French National Film Museum)
  • This is non-degree, none ECTS program (if not followed by a BFA or MFA second year program)

Students who successfully complete the program have the opportunity to enter the EICAR Bachelor program (or Master program if they qualify).

If students then decide to continue and enter an EICAR program, and only under this condition, the One Year Program – Filmmaking can be allotted 60 credits.

Validation & credits

After successfully completing all core classes, required workshops, and final year project, the student is awarded an EICAR One Year Certificate completed with 60 ECTS credits in case he or she continues into 2nd or 3rd year of Bachelor of Fine Arts.

Further studies

Students who successfully complete the program have the opportunity to enter the EICAR Bachelor program (or Master program if they qualify). If students then decide to continue and enter an EICAR program, and only under this condition, the One Year Program – Filmmaking can be allotted 60 credits.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to know French in order to go to the international programs?

No. Our BFA, MFA, One Year Filmmaking programs and our summer workshops, “Making a Short” and “Writing a Short” are taught in English. The school nevertheless provides French classes as part of the degree programs to help you to immerge into French culture.

When is the admissions period?

Admissions begins in late October and is rolling but usually goes until early summer depending on places that remain.

What type of programs do you offer in the international department? What are their duration?

The Master of Fine Arts (MFA) program is 2 years, the Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) is 3 years; the One Year Filmmaking program is 1 year. All of our full time programs during the year require the student to apply. Summer Workshops can be one to three weeks and require only that one registers.
