A Group of Brilliant Students Creates a Remarkable Commercial for EICAR
As part of their third year in the Bachelor’s program at EICAR, a group of students recently had the opportunity to design and produce a commercial for their school. This project, integrated into their curriculum, aimed to provide students with real-world experience in managing an audiovisual project.
Among several teams and different proposals, two were selected to carry out this project.
Let’s take a look at the creation of one of them: "Passion Rediscovered"
Calvin, a directing student and project leader for this commercial, reflects on the intense moments of this challenge: "From the very first meetings, we felt the pressure. It was a huge responsibility, but it was also exactly what we all wanted. To create something that represents the school, that speaks about us, about what we experience here."
Intense and Structured Teamwork
The creation of this commercial allowed the group of students to put into practice the skills they acquired during their respective training.
From writing the script to post-production, each step was a challenge in itself. "We knew time would be our main enemy," Calvin emphasizes. "Between brainstorming sessions, location scouting, and rehearsing with the actors, we had to learn to coordinate everything. It was intense, but it's in those moments that we grow the most."
Supported by their program head, Johann DULAT, as well as their project manager, Victor AZOULAY, both EICAR instructors and alumni, the students benefited from expert advice, helping them maintain a realistic and precise approach while giving free rein to their creativity.
"At one point, we were stuck on a key shot," Calvin recalls. "One of the instructors simply said, ‘Go for the simplest option, but do it with clear intent.’ That’s when everything changed, and the shoot took on a new dimension."
An Opportunity to Stand Out
The creation of this commercial is not just an academic exercise. For these future professionals, it’s also a chance to showcase their abilities in a real-world setting. Every student involved in the project understands that this kind of experience will be a major asset on their resume. "We all realized that this project could be our calling card," Calvin notes. "If the commercial was successful, it wouldn’t just speak about EICAR, but also about us, about our talent."
A Technical Challenge
The students faced several technical challenges throughout the process, especially regarding the management of shooting and editing equipment. Thanks to the technical resources available on the Lyon campus, they had access to high-quality professional gear, allowing them to get familiar with the tools they’ll likely encounter in their future careers.
"We stepped out of our comfort zone, but we knew we had everything we needed to succeed," Calvin says.
A Successful Project
The final result? A dynamic and inspiring commercial that captures the very essence of what EICAR represents: a place where passion and creativity come together to shape the professionals of tomorrow.
"The moment we saw the final version on the big screen for the first time, it was magical. We realized we had accomplished something powerful," Calvin recalls with enthusiasm.
This experience will remain etched in the minds of the students who worked on this project. They now know what it takes to produce an audiovisual work from start to finish. They’ve learned not only how to manage pressure but also how to collaborate effectively as a team and make bold creative decisions while staying true to their vision.
A Springboard for the Future
By taking part in this project, these students have proven they’re ready to enter the industry. "We didn’t think it would be this tough, but we also didn’t think it would be this rewarding," Calvin concludes with a smile.
One thing is certain: this project is just a glimpse of what these young talents have to offer the world of audiovisual production.
